Wala Blegay Leads Prince George’s County AI Initiative

 Prince George’s County, Maryland is taking bold steps to establish itself as a hub for artificial intelligence innovation, with a focus on collaboration, workforce development, and regional growth. Unlike traditional tech hubs dominated by a single leading company, the county is building a diverse AI ecosystem, supported by local firms like PerVista AI, which uses AI to analyze surveillance video and detect firearms, and Cloudforce, an IT consulting firm specializing in cloud migration and infrastructure modernization.

At the center of these efforts is the Prince George’s County AI Task Force, created through a resolution sponsored by Council Member Wala Blegay. The task force works with academic institutions such as the University of Maryland, Bowie State University, and Prince George’s Community College to develop educational and training programs that prepare students for careers in AI and related fields. It also collaborates with local businesses to explore research and development, ethical guidelines, and economic impacts of AI technology.

The county government is actively integrating AI into public services, aiming to streamline operations, enhance public engagement, and foster economic growth. While Prince George’s County may not yet rival Silicon Valley, these initiatives signal a commitment to developing local talent and attracting investment, positioning the region as a future leader in the AI economy.
